55 A level Mathematics Edexcel Paper 1 2018 Q9 Part b)

About this lesson
This video continues with question 9, part B, focusing on finding the exact coordinates of point P. We learn that points P and Q represent the furthest west and east points from the origin, where the gradient dy/dx is infinite. By setting the denominator of the dy/dx expression to zero, we establish a linear relationship between x and y (3y=x). This relationship is then substituted into the curve's original equation to solve for the y-coordinates. Finally, we determine the x-coordinates and identify point P based on its position in the negative x and negative y quadrant, resulting in P(-5√3, -5√3/3).
